Hawks Hunt German Shepherds represent the breeding program of Suzanne Clothier, internationally respected trainer and author. A small breeding program with usually just one litter per year, our dogs reflect the hard work, attention & expertise of more than 25 years we bring to breeding in order to offer the best all-round dog we know how to produce.

We are extremely picky about where our pups go, but are proud to say that they are scattered coast to coast - with a few as far as Alaska! Raised in our home with all our other dogs & animals, these dogs are bred to be companions & house dogs, not a kennel or outside dog. Prospective buyers are carefully screened, and references are checked thoroughly. There is usually a 6-12 month waiting period for our dogs (but not always!) and sometimes longer. Puppies are selected for each owner based on our in-depth knowledge of each puppy.  We will NOT sell you a puppy who does not or cannot meet your requirements.

TIME TO PLAY "21 QUESTIONS"!  Please fill out the following questionnaire and return it via an email to us.  (Just cut & paste into the email directly; we prefer not to receive attachments.)  If you have any questions, let us know.  We happily provide references from puppy buyers and our vet.

PLEASE  BE DETAILED & SPECIFIC!  Can't write too much! In fact, one way to get rejected quickly is to provide brief uninformative answers that do not tell us much about you & your lifestyle.  ALL we will base our initial yes/no response on will be your answers to these questions.  If we like what you have to say, then we go further and check references, etc. before making a final decision.

The basics:  name, address, phone number

1.  Describe your current household (people & animals, ages, sex, breed, species)

2.  Describe your typical day & lifestyle, including your work schedule, and how a puppy's needs will be met

3.  Describe your home & yard (location, set up, provisions for the dogs, where dogs sleep, hang out)

4.  What dogs have you had during your life?  What happened to those dogs?

5.  Have you had GSDs before?  If not, why do you want a GSD?  If you have had GSD, when?  What happened to those dogs? Why not go back to that breeder for a puppy? Why do you specifically want one of OUR pups?

6.  How will you be housebreaking this puppy?

7.  What trainers/books do you admire & follow?  Why?

8.  Who do you currently train with?  At what level?  What are your training goals?

9.  What do you want in a GSD?  Be very specific about the sex/appearance, energy levels, your goals & expectations, including behaviors that you would consider unacceptable.

10.   What would happen if this puppy developed physical or behavioral problems that prevented them from meeting these goals?

11.  What do you feed and why?  Have you raised a healthy, normal puppy on this diet?  Are you willing to follow our feeding recommendations?

12.  If you have specific training goals, what are they?  Have you trained a dog to this level before?  If not, why not?  If so, when?

13.  What puppy & training classes are available to you locally?  When do you plan to start puppy classes? When do you plan to start other classes after finishing puppy class?

14.  Will you spay or neuter this dog?  If required, would you keep a male intact for breeding (we sometimes retain stud rights on promising males)?

15. With rare exceptions, our puppies are sold with AKC limited registrations; this may be changed if you plan to show your puppy.  Do you plan to show in the breed ring?

16.  We use limited vaccinations as per Dr. Jean Dodd's protocol (older one using DA2MP and Parvo separately) - are you willing to follow our recommendations?  Is your vet?  Are you willing to titer your dog yearly before vaccinating if necessary?

17.  What is your time frame for acquiring a puppy?  We rarely breed more than 1 litter per year, so you may have to wait.  Are you willing to wait for the right dog?

18.  We select the puppies for each family, since we know our pups better than anyone else.  If two equally suitable puppies are available, then we allow the puppies and you to let us know what's the best match.  How do you feel about this?  (Note:  even if approved, if we do not have a puppy who matches you, we will not sell you a puppy from that litter)

19.  What do you expect from us as your puppy's breeder?  Are you willing to stay in close contact with us, openly discuss any training or health problems you have, and agree to give us right of first refusal should you be unable/unwilling to keep the dog?

20. We offer spay/neuter rebates ($50) as well as title rebates ($25 per title).  We do request that you x-ray your dog's hips & elbows at the time of neutering or at 1-2 years of age for intact animals so that we can track any problems.  Are you willing to do this?

21.  What questions/concerns do you have?  Please feel free to ask any questions about our dogs.

Please provide references from your vet, your current trainer/instructor, and two friends who know you well in regards to your dog activities.  These references will be checked; please provide phone numbers and also email if possible.

Please cut & paste your answers into an email to us.

THANKS!
